main categories of plastic, cans, paper and glass over a period of 10 years.
At first glance it is clear that, as time goes, the amount of household
waste that has been recycled has increased as well.
The biggest jump is the percentage of glass that has been recycled. In 1992,approximately
14% of household glass was recycled, however by 2002 about 48% of household
glass waste was recycled, which is even three times greater than the amount ten years pre
viously. The second largest improvement was under the category of paper waste.
Again, in 1992, approximately 14% was recycled.
However, by 1997 this had more than doubled and eventually by 2002
about 39% was recycled. The chart shows that glass and paper have had the
most significant improvements in percentages of household waste
that was recycled. However, cans and plastics have not made such great improvements.
In fact, there was a lower percentage of cans recycled in 1997 than
those recycled in 1992, however by 2002 this amount was higher than
it had ever been before. Plastics have seen the least improvement.
In 1992 the chart shows that 10% of plastics were recycled
and this then jumped to about 12% by 1997.
However, by 2002 the percentage remained unchanged,
showing no improvement in the last 5years.
The chart shows the trend that, from 1992 up until 2002, the amount of household
waste that was recycled has increased,
albeit the percentages of some categories are greater
than others.
