公务员热
Government jobs have become increasingly popular in China. A recent China Youth Daily
survey shows that around 86 percent of the 2,440 respondents consider becoming
civil servants, many of whom are highly-educated people with master's degrees or
doctoral degrees. The reasons for this phenomenon are simple. In China, civil servant
jobs mean good income, decent social status and permanent social welfare. Civil servants
enjoy the benefits of low-priced housing, healthcare and retirement pension that most
other occupations do not provide. Also, the cases of civil servants being unemployed are
rare in China. Working for a company may get a better pay, but most company employees
lack a sense of security. A lot of people find that the benefits of being a civil servant
are too good to refuse. People need to be sensible about the frenzy for civil servants.
After all, not all the people are suitable for the civil servant jobs. The ideal
occupation should be the one that a person loves to do and is decently paid to do.
