The table gives information about the health expenditure ( % of GDP ) in five countries
(Japan, Italy, France, Germany and the USA) in 2022.
It is clear from the table that the USA has the largest
percentage of GDP on healthcare among
all the countries and it is also the only country where private
spending exceeds public one.
To be specific, 40% of America’s GDP is used for health care,
half of which is private spending (20%), slightly higher than its public expense
and also the highest among the five countries.
By contrast, Japan and Italy respectively had 20%
and 25% of their GDP is spent on healthcare in total,
a much lower level than the US. Correspondently,
the percentage of their public and private spending was not significant as well,
all at about 10%.
As for Germany and France, they share similar percentages in each item with
total health spending accounting for 35% and 30%,
and the figures for both public and private health cost range from 12% to 18%.
